Bram Stoker’s Dracula Essay

The traditional view of Dracula as an old man who is played by Gary Oldman in the film is a man who is almost invincible and completely ruthless. Dracula’s appearance in the film compared to the novel by Bram Stoker is quite similar in some ways. The appearance of Dracula doesn’t differ that much and gives roughly the same picture as to how Dracula would look like in comparison from the film to the novel. Dracula is portrayed as an old man in the first scene; Jonathan goes to visit Dracula in his castle which is based on the border of Romania. As Jonathan is on the train, he reads out the letter which Coppola allows the audience to hear non- diegetically. As Jonathan is reading the letter, Dracula’s eyes appear in the sky as if he is watching Jonathan. The mise- en- scene is again clear. The music changes into the † war music†. This is to show that danger is approaching. The sky is red and also shows danger. Jonathan is dropped off in a deserted, scary forest. The colours used are dark and consist of black and blue. The music used is natural sounds e. g. wolves howling, animal sounds. The sounds are diegetic. He is dropped off by a few gypsies who are dressed peculiarly. The woman gives Jonathan a Cross and says it keeps the evil away. Jonathan then waits for a carriage to come and he doesn’t have to wait long. When Jonathan asks if the carriage is going to Dracula’s castle, the mystery man who doesn’t show his face grabs Jonathan and unrealistically puts Jonathan in the carriage. This was as if the driver was expecting Jonathan. The driver then takes Jonathan on a ride he was very uncomfortable with! The carriage was centimeters away from falling off a 300 foot cliff, chased by wolves and passed through a blue inferno as Jonathan approached the castle. Jonathan finally arrives at Dracula’s castle and as he enters the doors, they open by themselves- this is what would happen in traditional Dracula movies. There are sounds of water dripping to make the castle feel cold and empty. As the doors open, there stands Dracula with a lamp in his hand. The camera angle on Dracula is a close-up. This is to show Dracula’s facial expressions and the way he reacts when he finally sees Jonathan. The use of lighting e. g. the lamp, shows that Dracula’s castle is very dark, dull and mysterious. When we first see Dracula, he is an old man. Normally, an audience would think he is weak and has no power but as revealed later on in the film, we see that Dracula has an immense amount of power and can do almost anything. The director uses the lamp to show Dracula’s whole figure. This symbolizes that the castle is very dark. A major thing in the whole story of † Dracula† is the shadows. As Jonathan is filling out some forms for Dracula, Dracula’s shadow moves completely differently to how a normal person’s would. At one point, Dracula creates a shadow of him craving for Jonathan’s head. This shows that Dracula is interested in Jonathan’s blood. This happens when Dracula realises Jonathan is engaged with Mina. As Dracula’s shadow moves differently to his own, this symbolises that Dracula is not amongst normal people, but in a dark, unnatural world of his own. When Dracula is a wolf, this represents him being full of lust and his main victim is Lucy. Like any other traditional Dracula film, the women are the main victims and rely on the men to save them. This is exactly the same in Copppola’s film. Dracula transforms into a wolf when he thinks about Lucy and when he sees Lucy, he sees red blood. This is shown by a close-up on red blood cells. When Dracula turns into a wolf, the colours turn very dark to represent evil and death. If Dracula is unable for any reason to come to Lucy, he uses his powers to bring Lucy to him. This is shown in the garden where mina is trying not to let Lucy lose her mind over Dracula. Yet still Lucy gets deeper and deeper into her hypnotic trance and Mina can no longer help. Lucy arrives before Dracula in the centre of Lucy’s Garden maze. This is where Dracula seduces Lucy and sucks her blood.

When anticipating what principles of critical thinking in sexual decisions I use it depends on the situation. I need to take into consideration if I am single or in a relationship, also how long I been single or in a relationship for. These things are key factors in how my sexual decision critical thinking is affected. I will use past experiences of when I was single and how I acted are reacted to sexual encounters that that were affected because of my decisions that I made. I have never been the type of person that was going to wait till marriage for sex. My shyness though made it hard for me to experience my first sexual experience. This was due to the decisions I made I was scared of the subject, but acted as if I was not. When I first experienced sex my whole perspective changed, and this altered my decision making for the worse. I was the type of guy before sex that was still caution and always had a condom for protection, just in case it was needed. I did not date much so after the first encounter it was more of something that would happen on occasion. Mt decision making was poorly and my judgments were clouded for the worse. I had no self-respect for myself or the girls I just wanted to get me some. This in return lead me to many problems because I was careless with who I was having sex with protected and unprotected I had no respect for anyone. When I was single and in that time of my life I was experimenting and learning. When I became in a relationship for a short time it made me develop little self-control and respect for myself. Being in a short term relationship though it did not change the fact that I was a human, and in my mind it is human behavior be dominant. This meant that I did not care about occasionally having a affair with the girl that I was with. I felt it was all right because it was in the human nature. Unfortunately that type of attitude stabbed me in my back and my actions got back to me. The girl cheated on me back and I felt ashamed and hurt that she would do that to me. This helped me realize that I was in the wrong and altered my decision making. I am in the present now, and I am in a long term  relationship where my critical thinking in sexual decisions plays a huge role in us staying together. I could be the immature person I was years ago when first introduced to sex, but that would lead me nowhere. A long tern relationship revolves around trust and cheating and being dishonest breaks that trust, and you are left with nothing. I can say the relationship I am in today is all because of my past experiences and learning from my mistakes in the past. I have a daughter now at the age of 22, so I know how important it is to have safe sex. I am responsible now, and do not need another child not till later in life. I have learned that everyone has feelings and cheating is not being dominant, but hurting yourself and the one you are doing it to. The greatest thing I have learned is it is not always what you want, and sometimes you need to change your mood to make your partner happy. After all it is a relationship that means it involves keeping you are your partner happy.

The nodes of the administrative function network utilize CAT 6 cabling. The connection point of the administrative functions network are connected to an Ethernet backbone. A single mode fiber cable, transmitting 1000 Base F, physically connects nodes attached to the clinical segment. The nodes attached to the clinical function segment is physically linked by single mode fiber cable and transmitting 1000 Base F.Both segments connect via a network bridge (Apollo Group, 2011). A DHCP server provides all workstations on the administrative function sectors with IP addresses. In his narration regarding his encounter with Moll White, the alleged witch, he first painted the stereotypical individual who would not only scare others but also would be defenseless and unable to protect themselves against the malevolence and cruelty of others. Moll White was old, alone and poor. She was physically unpleasing and handicapped that people came to equate her presence to that of the devil and all misfortunes and ill omen that befall on the village. What happened was that the community wanted to get rid of one of its members who can no longer contribute something and had the misfortune of having been born ugly or infirm. Morality restrains them from taking more crude actions such as killing or outright eviction and so they used witchcraft as a pretext to harass poor souls such as Moll White and punish them in the process. Unfortunately, up until the eighteenth century, witchcraft is one of the few crimes that require very little material evidence. As a matter of fact, the often cited pins by â€Å"witnesses† are enough to show the guilt of an accused witch. The culture that exists today is not the same one that existed but has changed due to the events going on in the world around them and the desire to fit in a constantly changing world. Most of what has survived time from the Native American legacy is the things that now define what Native Americans used to be to most of the culture today. These are the things that today are seen on television, people in odd little pieces of clothing riding bare back on horses making noises by patting their mouth with their hand. But this is not very representative of the culture as a whole. One of the main ways histories is passed down for any group of people to its descendants is through story and the Native American people did this in a more unique and powerful way them most cultures. Each of these stories in the collection of Native American authors have one thing in common (besides the fact that they are all Native American) and it is that they are all telling their story. No other culture only writes about what they know but they tell stories of epic heroes of long ago and they can be used to fill in the history of the people that write.
